Haptic Globe is a prototype demonstrating global data visualization in VR with a custom spherical controller and hand tracking, providing a very natural and intuitive way to explore global data. Over one semester, the project was brought to life by a team of four students, including myself. Next to leading the team and coordinating development, my responsibilities were implementing the overall architecture of the software as well as a generic framework for retreiving data from APIs and visualizing them on the globe. The data can be visualized with different methods like bar charts, choropleth maps, connection maps and dot maps. I also implemented the custom spherical controller which is used to control the rotation of the large globe on which the data are visualized. More details can be found on the official project page.
