Something Unreal is a VR rhythm game inspired by popular games like Beatsaber and Synth Riders. It was created over the course of one semester by five students, including myself. The player travels through a blood artery and must battle against viruses by punching them rhythmically. Next to developing the overall architecure of the game I also composed the original music. The rhythmic gameplay is realized by encoding additional information into the MIDI files which are used to drive both gameplay and in-engine audio synthesis. I also implemented real-time audio analysis (frequency spectrum & onsets) and used the resulting data to animate world elements like the contracting artery and UI frequency spectrum display. I also designed and implemented all postprocessing effects which are used to further enhance the audiovisual experience. More details can be found on the official project page.
